Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Custom One-Day Website Build
Imagine this: you wake up, pour your coffee, and by the end of the day your therapy practice has a fully custom website that actually feels like you.
No months of back-and-forth with a designer.
No half-finished DIY project lurking on your to-do list.
Just one focused day of collaboration, clarity, and action.
This is what a One-Day Website is all about. Let me show you exactly what happens behind the scenes, step by step.
Step 1: The Discovery Call
Everything starts with a conversation. After you reach out through my online form, you’ll schedule a Discovery Call directly into my calendar. This is where we roll up our sleeves and talk about your vision, your hang-ups, your goals—everything.
It’s not just about fonts and colors (though we’ll get there). I want to know what you want your website to do for you: attract new clients, establish your niche, make you feel proud when you send someone your link.
As both a therapist and a designer, I get what it’s like to feel stuck or second-guess yourself. The call is where I help clear that fog. And if we’re a good fit, I’ll pencil in your VIP Day and send you a link to your very own Member Area: a private, password-protected page with your instructions, VIP Day schedule, deliverables list, and folders to upload files. Basically, it’s your project headquarters.

Step 2: First Deliverables
Next comes the unglamorous but essential part: signing your contract and paying your deposit. Nothing is officially on the calendar until those two pieces are done.
Think of it as the “ring on the finger” moment—this is when things get real. Once those deliverables are in, your VIP Day is locked and loaded.
Step 3: Prepping Your Materials
Now we’re off to the races! You’ll get at least two weeks (sometimes more) to gather and upload the rest of your deliverables: your completed questionnaires, photos, and any documents I’ll need.
This isn’t busywork—it’s where the magic starts. Your answers help me understand:
Which services are most important to highlight.
Which photos communicate warmth, professionalism, and approachability.
Which values should shine through in your messaging.
Here’s where my therapist brain and designer brain overlap. I know what a potential client is really looking for on your site (spoiler: it’s not just your fee). I use design psychology to make sure they land on your page and instantly feel: I trust this person. They get me.
Step 4: Draft Website Build
Once I have everything I need, I spend about a week creating a preliminary draft of your website. Think of it as a blueprint—a starting point that sets us up for a super-productive VIP Day.
This is where I apply strategy and psychology: crafting your copy, setting up the design structure, and making sure your site doesn’t just look good but works. During this week, I may pop into your inbox with a clarifying question or two, so keep an eye out.
Step 5: VIP Day!
This is the fun part. On your VIP Day, we meet in the morning to review the draft site, and then we get to work. Together, we’ll spend six focused hours transforming the template into a website that feels like it was built just for your practice.
We’ll tweak fonts, colors, and layouts, refine your copy, and make sure your services are front-and-center in a way that resonates. There’s usually a thirty-minute meal break in the middle (yes, you can wear sweatpants—I definitely do).
By the end of the day, your site is polished, customized, and live. Yes—live. You get to walk away knowing your digital home is ready to welcome new clients.
And if you’re in a different time zone? No problem. Sometimes we split the work into two sessions so it’s manageable for both of us.
The Therapist-Designer Overlap
Here’s what makes this process unique: I’m not just a designer, I’m also a therapist. That means I know how clients think when they’re searching for help. I know what reassures them, what confuses them, and what makes them click away.
So when I’m helping you decide what to highlight, I’m not pulling it out of thin air—I’m drawing from years of clinical knowledge and design psychology. I help you focus on what matters most: making your site a place where potential clients feel seen and safe.
Wrapping It Up
By the end of your One-Day Website, you’ll go from having ideas and half-written notes to a fully custom, live website that’s ready to serve your practice.
Less stress. Less waiting. More clarity.
If you’ve been putting off your website because the process feels overwhelming, this is your chance to get it done in one focused day—with someone who understands the therapy world inside and out.
